Overview

The Meetings and Events intern will gain experience in event planning in a variety of forms, specifically through working on Americans for the Arts national events.  Depending on the applicable semester, interns will work on events such as the National Arts Awards, Annual Convention, National Arts Marketing Project Conference and Arts Advocacy Day.  Depending on the semester, the intern may also have the opportunity to work with staff during an event for onsite logistical experience.

 

As a result of the internship experience, the intern will gain a knowledge base that may be applied to a career in the meetings and events field.  Applicable skills may include knowledge of vendor or site selection process, event logistics and onsite coordination, as well as technical computer skills such as Microsoft Excel and data entry.   

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Research for future meetings and events
  • Assist with event preparations and logistics
  • Onsite coordination for events (as needed, dependent on semester)
  • Working with the Meetings & Events team on vendor and site-selection processes
  • Edit and source content for staff-wide communication in relation to event logistics
  • Conduct research and initiate contact to various vendors for partnerships (i.e. entertainment, transportation, hospitality, etc.)
  • Administrative assistance with event preparation, which can include: mail merge name badges, preparing materials for courier shipment, travel confirmation packets

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program that is applicable to the field (including, but not limited to, event management, hospitality/hotel management, communications/public relations, or liberal arts)
  • Possess interest in event planning and/or the nonprofit sector
  • The ability to establish priorities for numerous assignments at one time is necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a highly desirable
  • Team player and prepared to work in a detail-oriented environment
