Overview

The intern for the Local Arts Advancement (LAA) department assists in supporting local arts agencies nationwide. The LAA Intern is responsible for researching, synthesizing, posting, and generating content for the LAA department’s associated web pages and newsletters. To generate this content the intern will utilize internal and external information to create immediately accessible resources for local arts administrators. Topics include but are not limited to: cultural tourism, cultural facilities, cultural equity, funding information, public art, placemaking, arts education, arts management, and grantmaking. The finished content will then be published on Americans for the Arts’ website and newsletters in collaboration with the web team. The LAA Intern should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and be comfortable writing about and researching a variety of arts administration topics. As the LAA Intern works under four supervisors, the ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks is important. Other projects include assisting the Vice President of Local Arts Advancement, and the Public Art Programs Manager with associated tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Research, synthesize, and post relevant content for local arts administrators on a variety of arts administration topics
  • Generate new resources to provide relevant information for local arts administrators (e.g. blogs, summaries, literature reviews, or reports etc.)
  • Survey and recommend content for Americans for the Arts constituents
  • Work with the web team to publish finished content onto Americans for the Arts website and newsletters.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work independently and communicate with staff in professional manner
  • High attention to detail
  • Professional or academic experience with an arts or arts-service organization
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced and flexible environment
  • A commitment to serving the non-profit arts field
