Overview

The Development Intern will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in different aspects of running a successful fundraising campaign. The candidates will be introduced to multiple ways of communicating the value proposition of the work that Americans for the Arts carries out on a local, state, and national level. The development department is responsible for raising all contributed revenues for the organization. Program areas include individual giving, as well as corporate, foundation and government giving. This intern position will include work in all program areas. 

 

As part of the Development team, the intern will also have the opportunity to network with the staff members who are among the leaders of the filed as well as arts professionals in D.C. area through meetings and site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct prospect research for foundations and corporations by using search databases such as Google, WealthEngine, and online business magazines
  • Work with the Individual Giving Coordinator to prepare copy, images, and social media content for fall campaigns, including Give the Arts Day and Giving Tuesday
  • Proofread and edit reports and write cover letters to institutional donors and sponsors of our signature convenings
  • Provide general administrative support including filing and mailings
  • Participate in staff meetings

Qualifications

The Development Intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, have excellent writing, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and possess adaptability, initiative and superior problem-solving skills and follow-through. The ideal candidate works well independently as well as in a team setting, and has an interest in non-profit fundraising.
