  • Overview

    Americans for the Arts Private Sector Initiatives department provides research, messaging and advocacy to advance the value and integration of the arts into the business and foundation communities which leads to greater resources for the arts. The department also provides professional development to local arts organizations so they can better partner with businesses and foundations in their communities. Americans for the Arts mission is to serve, advance, and lead the network of organizations and individuals who cultivate, promote, sustain, and support the arts in America. Connecting the best ideas and leaders from the arts, communities, foundations and business, Americans for the Arts work to ensure that every American has access to the transformative power of the arts.

     

    Our staff trains local arts agencies and nexus organizations to better leverage resources and leadership from the private sector to increase support for their organizations and to advance the arts in local communities. We create programming, research and best practices for local arts agencies (LAAs) that connect directly with the private sector and work with local arts organizations to build strategic partnerships on the local level to advance the arts. We support the work that stimulates partnerships between the arts and business sectors through the creation of events, content and marketing that promotes the role the arts play in advancing business goals. This is achieved through the pARTnership Movement campaign; coordination of our annual business recognition event The BCA 10: Best Business Partnering with the Arts in America, the David Rockefeller Lecture, and the coordination of recruitment and engagement of our Business Committee for the Arts of business people who are passionate about the role the arts play in advancing business goals and transforming communities.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in work that supports the professional development and mission of the Private Sector Network, which includes Arts & Business Councils, Business Committees for the Arts, and United Arts Funds
    • Provide support for departmental programming for The pARTnership Movement, an initiative that aims to reach business leaders with the message that partnering with the arts can build their competitive advantage, including detailed work to assist in the redevelopment of the website.
    • Provide copy for various publications, organizational e-newsletters, the pARTnership Movement, web features, and the ARTSblog
    • Assist in various research projects, collaborate on network outreach efforts, help coordinate the details of various Private Sector events/meetings, and create specific tools and web resources that can be used locally by our partners around the United States

    Qualifications

    • Exceptional writing skills
    • Superb attention to detail
    • Comfort with Microsoft Office a must (Word, Excel and Outlook)
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Interest in arts advancement, specifically partnerships between businesses and arts organizations
